ABOUT THE ART
This signed, limited edition print was based on an artwork painted by Miwa Komatsu in Fitzrovia Chapel on 11 June, 2024.
The painting process was streamed live from start to finish.
Komatsu worked closely with printmakers at Make-Ready to translate her painting, Sacred Connectedness, into a fine-tuned hybrid print with a silkscreen varnish seal.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in Nagano Prefecture, Japan in 1984, Miwa Komatsu graduated from Joshibi University of Art & Design. While a student, Komatsu created her work The Forty-ninth Day, after which she began to concentrate on painting. Starting from copperplate engraving, she has expanded her practice by incorporating materials such as acrylic paint and Arita ware.
Komatsu has been highly receptive to the invisible world since childhood: Her early experience of being immersed in nature developed her distinctive view of life and death. Compelled by a belief that all beings are created spiritually equal, she has presented her works under the theme of “Divine Spirits.”
A pair of Komatsu’s Arita ware works reside in the collection of the British Museum. Her work has also been acquired by museums and institutions such as the World Trade Center; the Nagano Prefectural Art Museum in Nagano City, Japan; and the Xiao Museum of Contemporary Art in Rizhao, China.
